Winter Mulch for Garden Beds

Why mulch? It helps the ground temperature stay stable rather than thawing and refreezing.

What mulch? One of the best mulches for perennial and shrub beds is leaves. Evergreen boughs are great for bulb beds.

How much mulch? Two to four inches spread throughout the garden beds.

When? As a general rule, wait until after a hard frost to apply the mulch.
